Meet the Slollas — shapeshifting creatures of pure expression. Playful yet haunting, these beings constantly transform, communicating through dazzling sounds triggered by their movement. Slollas live in Sayssiworld, a dynamic digital realm crafted by artist Balfua.
To bring the Slollas to life, Balfua blends traditional creative techniques with digital tools like CGI and AI. Over the years, the introduction of AI technologies has allowed the Slollas to evolve in unexpected, surprising ways — both for the artist and visitors to Sayssiworld.
At Nxt Museum, the Slollas are presented on the Slollaleia — a monumental digital “cinema screen” — where they move, shift, and sing. Their world is filled with sound effects and music composed by Balfua, using a combination of acoustic and electronic instruments, weaving an enigmatic atmosphere that bridges the organic and the digital.
Balfua | b. 1994 Los Angeles
Under the moniker Balfua, Berlin-based artist and musician Sam Balfus crafts immersive digital artworks rooted in world-building, fantasy, and the liminality of describable experience. Music and visuals converge in intricate, multisensory environments where he integrates various analogue and digital techniques—drawing, sculpture, Computer-Generated Imagery (CGI), animation, VR, 3D printing, and AI.
Among these environments is Sayssiworld, an evolving digital ecosystem with dazzling creatures that has gained popularity in social media and amassed Balfua a large follower base amongst his other work. His latest production, notably, involved collaborating with Björk for an exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
