What is Nxt

Nxt Museum is an experimental art space in Amsterdam that explores the intersection of art, technology, science, and sound. It commissions and presents ground-breaking immersive installations by pioneering living artists. 

Over the last four years, Nxt has built a portfolio of large-scale exhibitions featuring a new wave of new media artists and developed extensive public programmes focussed on music, movement, performance and education. Nxt has emerged as an aspirational global brand in the art world.

Our Mission

With a mission to change our tech-driven world for the better, at Nxt we seek, show, and question how tech impacts humanity through art.  In these times of accelerating technological developments, humanity is faced with a duality: the promise of its power and the anxiety of its consequences. That’s why we started Nxt Museum, the first fine art institution in the Netherlands fully dedicated to art and technology.

Nxt Exhibitions

The artists and works exhibited at Nxt Museum explore and reflect on cutting-edge technologies and socio-political urgencies, allowing us to glimpse the future.  With our first exhibition, ‘Shifting Proximities’, in 2020, we presented a sampling of media art, with works by national and international artists such as Heleen Blanken, Marshmallow Laserfeast, and Roelof Knol. The exhibition ‘UFO—Unidentified Fluid Other’ (2022) explored the thin boundaries between the real and the virtual world with works by artists such as Julius Horsthuis, Lu Yang, Jacolby Satterwhite, and Harriet Davey. ‘Life in a Different Resolution’ (2023) showcased two decades of groundbreaking creations by post-digital art group Random International.

Our fourth exhibition, ‘Still Processing’, opens in February 2025. Seven visionary artists are redefining sensory experiences, exploring colours beyond human vision and how sound reshapes space. Curated by Bogomir Doringer, this groundbreaking exhibition dives into the evolution of image processing—from machine algorithms to human perception.

Nxt Foundation

The Foundation supports artists and the development of new work, knowledge, and future art forms. It strives for diverse artistic programming that challenges, educates, inspires, and makes a lasting contribution to our complex contemporary society. More information will be released in 2025.
