ADE 2024 – exploring light and sound
Dasha Rush presents ‘Hunger to Create’ at Nxt Museum.

Halfway through October, Amsterdam transforms into a breeding ground for electronic music and visual arts with the annual arrival of Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE): five days and nights of EDM, including audio-visual exploration and innovation. For this occasion, Nxt Museum – a leading institute in new media art and technology – proudly opened its doors for Dasha Rush’s programme ‘Hunger to Create’.

We started the evening with a calming ambient and electronica set by Amsterdam’s Vân Ahn

Vân Ahn’s set was followed by Dasha Rush’s audio-visual live show ‘Hypothetically Personal’. Over two decades, electronic producer, composer, sound artist and DJ Dasha Rush has earned recognition as one of the most formidable names in electronic music. ‘Hypothetically Personal’ debuted at Teatro del Canal in Madrid earlier this year and was showcased in Berlin’s Berghain. During ADE 2024 it formed the centrepiece of ‘Hunger to Create’ at Nxt Museum.

Matti Vilho and Spekki Webu took us on a meditative journey through the subconscious with ‘Signal Transmutations.’ Their live set combined the amorphous, twitching sounds of Webu’s production with Vilho’s dream-like visuals—an imagined look into an afterlife of transformation and transferred energies.

The event prioritized exploring live creation rather than simply mixing recorded sounds and visuals. We celebrated light and sound, a curious exploration of what is possible when music, visual arts, and technology collide. In the ever-transforming Amsterdam Noord, we invited attendees to go beyond mere spectatorship and step into the towering, immersive visuals of Nxt Museum’s monumental exhibition space, Nxt Stage, with 370m2 of projection room. Contrary to typical audio-visual shows, the crowd was invited to step into the artwork and lose themselves within the spectacular worlds created by the artists.

For ‘Hunger to Create,’ Dasha Rush aimed to show how “electronic music can be much more than just club music.” The event’s emphasis on exploration, experimentation, and immersion, allowed by the space in Nxt Museum, supported that vision, providing technical expertise to the artists’ limitless imaginaries.
