Nxt Museum launches the Night Academy for Audiovisual Culture: a 6-month residency programme dedicated to talent development, professionalisation, and knowledge exchange. Designed for emerging creatives with the ambition to build a career in the nightlife industry, the programme supports participants in expanding their network, deepening their knowledge, and strengthening both their technical and creative skillsets.
Bridging visual art, music, and performance, the programme transforms Nxt Museum’s exhibition space and advanced technical infrastructure into both a classroom and a laboratory. Four residents are selected and supported to think, develop, and present at the forefront of contemporary audiovisual culture. Throughout the programme, each artist receives tailored, hands-on guidance from a diverse network of mentors – from artists and technicians to bookers and creative directors – carefully matched to their individual practice and ambitions. Residents are invited to develop an artistic concept and ultimately bring it to life before an audience. Collectively, the group explores and redefines nightlife as both an artistic expression and a social practice, bridging the gap between cultural programming for day and night.
Bogomir Doringer leads the Night Academy as its curator and lead mentor, guiding residents through the programme and shaping the selection of each cohort.
The Night Academy is led by his expertise and years of practice as an artist and researcher at the forefront of night culture. His ongoing research on “dance of urgency” and being part of Nxt Museum will resonate through the programme. With special guests, Doringer will guide residents in both their artistic development and in their path toward a responsible and complex understanding of dance rituals, nightlife, club culture, and the sociopolitical power of music.
The programme concludes with a public showcase in November.
What We Offer
Who Should Apply
Amsterdam-based audiovisual makers working at the intersection of visual art, sound, performance, and immersive media, with an interest in exploring the boundaries between day and night culture. The Night Academy is as much about bringing nightlife sensibilities into spaces like museums as it is about bringing art into clubs and festivals. Age is not a determining factor. Artistic development is rarely linear, and we welcome applicants at different stages of their journey.
How to Apply
You can submit your application online. You will be asked to provide your contact details, a résumé and/or portfolio, a short motivation, and an initial concept or research question you wish to explore during the programme.
The open call runs from 15 April to 13 May. Based on the submitted applications, 12–16 creatives will be invited for interviews, which will take place on 21 or 22 May. Final participants will be announced before the end of May.
Commitment
The residency runs from 15 June to 30 November 2026. On average, the programme includes two collective sessions per month, such as mentorship sessions, technical training, and behind-the-scenes visits to festivals, clubs, and cultural institutions.
In addition, participants are expected to dedicate time to developing and realising their creative concept. These working hours are flexible and can be arranged at your own discretion, with the option to work from Nxt Museum or remotely.
