Introducing: the Selection of Artists for our Open Call
Meet the artists that are on view in the entrance hall of Nxt Museum in Amsterdam

Earlier this year, Nxt Museum launched an Open Call for motion graphics artists to be displayed on the LED wall of our museum entrance. Over the span of several weeks, a selection of four artists exploring different forms of new media art will be displayed on our largest LED screen in the reception of the museum.

Meet the artists who have been selected:

Hiromu Oka

Hiromu Oka is a visual artist who explores new forms of interpretation and expression through the transformation of digital data into analogue mediums.

By focusing on the shifts in colour layering and image quality that occur in this conversion, he highlights the tactile and material aspects of visual experience.

In his video work SAVE THE DATA, SAVE THE MEMORY, he digitised 8mm home video footage from over 30 years ago, printing every frame onto paper and re-editing it into a new timeline.

While the visual resolution is intentionally reduced, the texture of the ink and the grain of the paper are amplified, bringing forward a material resolution that evokes the ambiguity and sensory vividness of early childhood memories.

Through his practice, he questions the growing emphasis on surface-level resolution brought about by advancements in AI and technology, and invites reflection on the value of primitive, material forms of resolution that risk being overlooked.

Drone Sector

Drone Sector is an alias and indefinite project by Stan Herben, an Amsterdam-based audiovisual artist.

His work uses generative art and experimental sound design to explore themes such as dystopia, technological singularity, exobiology, and the sublime. Deeply inspired by science fiction and a machine-driven future, Drone Sector aims to create worlds that evoke a sense of alienation and discovery.

In the Positronic series, Drone Sector, explores the complex imaginary of the artificial computational brains of the future. These highly intelligent machines and systems will perform everyday tasks to sustain and support an immense, technologically-dependent society, so abstract and far beyond our understanding that they remain incomprehensible both now and likely even then.

Week 3:

Roxi Basa

Roxi Basa is a 3D artist and digital alchemist, transforming technology into fantasy. Roxi crafts immersive, dreamlike universes that invite audiences to escape reality and step into the extraordinary. Blending fantasy and mystery with a strong narrative, she creates compelling visual stories featuring otherworldly landscapes and mystical beings, blurring the boundaries between the known and the imagined.

Inspired by nature, forgotten myths, and speculative futures, she shapes stories that serve as gateways to unexplored worlds, inviting audiences to venture beyond the familiar.

Anatomies of the Future is a speculative exploration of post-human evolution, where the boundaries between biology, technology, and identity dissolve into a new, interconnected existence. Drawing inspiration from the mesmerising nature of siphonophores, this project envisions the next stage of human augmentation—one where our bodies become modular, fluid, and capable of bio-communication through light. This immersive video artwork pays homage to the beauty of marine symbiosis and transhumanist possibilities, portraying a future where humans adapt, merge, and evolve beyond individuality.

Aoife Dunne

Aoife Dunne (b. 1995, Dublin) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice explores the dynamic intersection of physical and virtual spaces. Known for her immersive installations that combine sculpture, video, sound, performance, costume, and technology, her work delves into concepts of identity, intimacy, and the nature of reality, examining the profound impact of technology on perception and place.

Drawing inspiration from digital culture, fantasy, surrealism, and social critique, Dunne constructs vibrant, multi-sensory environments that challenge conventional notions of reality and self. Her practice pushes the boundaries between the material and immaterial, offering transformative experiences that redefine the relationship between technology, art, and embodiment.

Dunne’s work ‘OBSIDIAN’ delves into the cyclical dynamics of rebirth, destruction, and transformation. Drawing from the unique qualities of this volcanic formation, the piece serves as a metaphor for the alchemical processes of emotional and psychological change. Through the lens of physical and mental metamorphosis, ‘OBSIDIAN’ illuminates the tension between the human body and the digital realm, reflecting the ongoing struggle to break free from both real and imagined constraints.
