Join us on August 7 at Nxt Museum for the documentary premiere of ‘In Focus’: a look into Lumus Instruments by //SNCMag, including a talk and Q&A with the artists.
A truly intimate look into the practices of Lumus Instruments is given in this documentary directed by Alex Cocking. Filmed over the course of two months, the //SNCMAG team followed the studio on their build-up to the 2024 edition of Draaimolen Festival, where they designed both the Tunnel and Aura stages.
Along the way, the team got a behind-the-scenes look into Lumus Instruments’ creative process, philosophies around their practice and more.
//SNCMAG is a UK-based publication dedicated to music, visual art, and their various intersections. This film, titled ‘In Focus’, is the first of an ongoing series that aims to document and celebrate some of the world’s most innovative art studios whose practice sits between the boundaries of music and visual art.
Lumus Instruments is a multidisciplinary studio that uses light, sound, and structure in various forms of installation art and scenography. Timo Lejeune and Julius Oosting, who have roots in design, architecture, and engineering, direct the studio.
Lumus stems from the Latin words “Lumen” (Light) and “Ludus” (Play). The word “Instruments” points to their identity as makers of instruments, precision tools for playing.
“A lot of our story and our work is about the way we think about light, but also the physicality of space. For us, it’s really important to show that the digital world is not only a file but also an existence. It’s there.”
– Julius Oosting, from Nxt Museum’s interview with Lumus Instruments
Lumus Instruments’ installation ‘POLYNODE XI‘ is currently on show at Nxt Museum.
You can acces the event with your museum ticket, or you can buy a separate ticket at the door for a reduced price (does NOT include museum visit).
