Come to Nxt Museum for the 26th edition of Museumnacht Amsterdam: a night of art, music and social encounters, with the museum open after dark.
For one night, club culture moves into Nxt. Alongside the exhibitions, four new works premiere throughout the museum, created by the residents of the Night Academy for Audiovisual Culture.
Move between spatial sound, light and interactive installations that take different parts of nightlife as their starting point. From the physical pulse of the dance floor to ancient creation stories, shifting states of light and the invisible connections formed in the club.
The works are the result of six months of experimentation by four residents, exploring nightlife as more than a place to go out: as a space for collective experience, cultural exchange and new ways of making and experiencing art.
FCKLY explores how audiovisual experiences shape our sense of self in relation to others on the dance floor. Their immersive, interactive installation captures the moment an individual experience shifts into collective consciousness, placing visitors somewhere between the self and something larger.
Babusi Nyoni reimagines the Zulu creation story through a multi-channel audio work about preserving club culture and the fleeting magic of the dance floor. Spatial audio moves through the mythical origins of the first dancers towards the contemporary club, questioning what happens when nightlife becomes something to capture, share and consume.
D.Dimensions explores the space between light and shadow, nightlife and daylife. Treating light as a physical material, their immersive installation moves through contrasting rhythms and states, reflecting on that particular threshold where the night begins to disappear and day takes over.
Dmytro Tentiuk strips nightlife back to its physical pulse. In his spatial audio installation, music and voices disappear, leaving rhythm, vibration and the body behind. The club shifts from a social environment into an embodied encounter with sound and perception.
Throughout the six-month residency, the four artists developed their works under the guidance of lead mentor Bogomir Doringer, whose artistic practice and research examine the cultural, social and transformative potential of nightlife.
The Night Academy for Audiovisual Culture creates space for emerging makers to research audiovisual culture through the lens of nightlife, treating the night not only as a setting, but as a site for artistic experimentation and exchange.
The Night Academy for Audiovisual Culture was made possible with support from the Municipality of Amsterdam.
Night Academy alumni and Ukrainian artist Sophia Bulgakova, together with Dutch technologist Ymer Marinus, present the newly commissioned Sensitive Guidelines. Responding to Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine, the installation examines how AI can distort documentary images and shape our understanding of reality, questioning the integrity of the information we encounter. The work premiered during ADE at Motie, who co-commissioned the artwork with Nxt Museum.
Access during Museumnacht requires a valid Museumnacht ticket. Nxt Museum members can also visit Nxt Museum during the evening with their membership; this does not provide access to other Museumnacht locations.
