How do we experience time? Is it a mathematical dimension or a subjective flow of fragmented experiences?
Duration juxtaposes these radically different perspectives, mechanical yet personal. The audiovisual installation is a responsive grid, a mechanism or parametric clockwork, that distributes light and sound across space and time, allowing visitors to enter multiple temporal dimensions. The experience is processed by a custom-built echo system that deconstructs singular audio inputs into patterns and interplays them with light.
Duration is heavily inspired by the research of Jimena Canales, a Mexican historian and writer. Her book The Philosopher and the Physicist researches the consequences of a conversation between physicist Albert Einstein and philosopher Henri Bergson on April 6th, 1922, in which they debated the subject of time.
Boris Acket | b. 1988, Amersfoort
Boris Acket is a contemporary artist and composer based in Amsterdam. He merges sound, light and motion to explore how they can offer ritualistic encounters and sanctuaries. Having started in the local electronic music context, Acket navigates the tension between surrender and control through his work in an interplay of technology and human experience. The multidisciplinary approach now blurs the lines between performance and exhibition, music and art. His work has been presented in various contexts, from Salone del Mobile to Stedelijk Museum and Amsterdam Dance Event to De School.
