A Speculative Horizon: Art at the Edge of Innovation

Found in the former Palace of Justice building, Rosewood Hotel officially opened its doors this month. Nxt Museum was invited to curate a three-part series of ‘innovative media’ exhibitions on a large-scale digital screen in the lobby, with the aim of celebrating emerging digital artists across the Netherlands.

In this exhibition, we invite guests to engage with artworks that explore the intersection of art and tech, reflect on contemporary themes, and push the boundaries of creative expression. Our aim is to spotlight local talent and strengthen the connections between cutting-edge art and Amsterdam’s vibrant cultural scene.

Deniz Kurt (@denizezkurt)

Still from ‘Flora Eterna’

Deniz Kurt is a creative technologist and interdisciplinary media artist based in Amsterdam. Her work merges algorithmic processes with themes of nature, post-anthropocentrism, speculative futures, and biomimicry—exploring how technology can sense, respond, or evolve.

Through generative visuals, sound, and interactive systems, she creates new forms of experience that invite reflection on the interconnectedness of living and artificial worlds. Her practice often moves between the digital and the ecological, challenging linear narratives and opening up space for multi-sensory engagement. Alongside her artistic and industry practices, Deniz teaches at Breda University of Applied Sciences, where she shares her research-driven approach to emerging media and creative technology. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Luxembourg AI Pavilion, NDSM Fuse, Ars Electronica, IMPAKT, Dutch Design Week, HMM FYI, and Sketch to Pixel Digital Art Turkey.

Kirsten Swensen (@kirstenswensen)

Still from ‘Echoes of Time’

Kirsten Swensen is a digital media artist based in Amsterdam, exploring the intersection of consciousness, nature, and technology. Her immersive works –  ranging from generative art to mixed reality installations – draw on themes of impermanence, introspection, and non-dualism. Using code, data, and game mechanics, she creates meditative digital experiences that question what it means to be human in the age of AI. At the heart of her practice is a desire to use technology as a medium for spiritual reconnection – creating works that act as bridges between spirit and machine, the ancient and the futuristic.

Her work has been performed and exhibited at institutions worldwide, including the Van Abbemuseum, MMMAD Festival, Sedition Art, Blinc Festival, Adelaide Festival, GLOW, Dutch Design Week, STRP Festival, DEMO Festival, and more.
