Can techno tell the story of climate change? EarthSonic, the global project by In Place of War, thinks so. Working with Indigenous communities, musicians, scientists and climate activists worldwide, EarthSonic turns the climate crisis into music. As part of ADE Arts & Culture 2026, the project lands at Nxt Museum with two premieres of immersive music installations, a live AV set by Paranoid London and an exclusive panel. The night opens with Roland’s Electronic Petting Zoo, an interactive station built entirely from EarthSonic’s field recordings.

Sumuku listens to knowledge that never got written down. The installation explores the traditional ecological wisdom of Sabah’s Bobolian community through songs drawing on their sacred Rinait chants, a project by Malaysian NGO Pertubuhan Kolektif Seni Budaya Sabah with the University of Manchester and the British Council. Natural Symphony travelled into Sabah’s rainforest to capture plant and star data, which merged with the team’s field recordings, songs and footage into ‘Nafas Leluhur’ (“Breath of Ancestors”): a new collaboration between Paul Hartnoll (Orbital) and Bobolian apprentice and traditional Rungus musician Razif Ajip, brought to life as an installation by visual artist Ben Sheppee (Observatory) and Alistair Lomas.

Two Seas is a tale of two waters on opposite ends of the climate crisis: the melting Bothnian Bay in Oulu, Finland, and the vanished Aral Sea in Muynak, Uzbekistan. One is disappearing, the other already gone. Paranoid London and Finnish and Uzbekistani artists turned recordings from both seas into music, with immersive installations by Ben Sheppee (Observatory) and Matt Black (Coldcut). The result: a live audio-visual performance that uses techno to tell one of today’s most urgent climate stories.

The tally for the night: two premieres, one panel on making music with nature, the planet and indigenous communities, one live AV show by Paranoid London. And yes, one petting zoo.
