Night at the Museum
Eerste Communie joined forces with Nxt Museum for a night where sound, visuals, and dance collide.

This weekend, Nxt Museum teamed up with Eerste Communie to bring nightlife into the museum space. Beyond being a party, the event itself was the culmination of a mentorship programme that brought together three duos composed of one sound artist and one visual artist, to explore the possibilities of new media artistry.

The Artists

Six artists were brought together for this event, selected for their mastery and creativity in audiovisual exploration.

The Mentorship Programme

The mentorship programme explored how to bring museums and (visual/new media) art into the night as testing grounds for music and movement. During the mentorship programme, the artists were invited to investigate whether, and how, museum spaces can be transformed into authentic environments for dance and rave culture. These experimental partnerships fostered new ways of working – an interdisciplinary experiment with sound, visual art, audiences, and space.

Five mentors were selected for this programme: Bogomir Doringer, Boris Acket, Isabelle Ho Kang You, Jessey Voorn, and Samuel Ruddick. For the past six weeks, the artists have met with their mentors once a week for inspiration sessions, followed by workshop sessions, during which they each created a performance for the club night. These exercises aim to pass down knowledge from talented individuals with a broad range of skill sets and foster an atmosphere of knowledge sharing and collective creation between artists.

This project is made possible with the support of AFK (Amsterdam Fonds voor de Kunst). The rave was sponsored in part by Stelz, MojoMate, and Lokaliteit.
