Providing a platform and expert guidance for artists exploring intent-driven AI
This summer, Nxt Museum and Prosus are launching an AI residency programme to research how intent-driven AI will impact our society. In Amsterdam during July, August, and September 2025, the residency invites artists, programmers, and designers to question and explore current developments in AI and their possible future impact(s). Four artists/artist studios have been selected for the residency and will receive expert mentorship: Prosus provides access to real-world tech, data, and AI experts, while Nxt offers the artistic direction, critical framework, and space to translate that into impactful, ethical cultural experiences.
What is ‘intent-driven AI’?
Intent-driven AI is a type of artificial intelligence system that can understand, infer, and act upon the goal or purpose underlying a user’s behaviour rather than simply react to commands. Contrary to typical AI chatbots, which react to explicit commands, intent-driven AI can read into the user’s intention based on the interaction context.
The residency programme
The main objective of the AI Residency is to question and explore the (future) impact of intent-driven AI on humans and society at large. Venturing beyond dystopian perspectives, this residency encourages artists to consider alternative narratives, focusing instead on the potential, possibilities, and new tools AI can offer for creative and societal transformation. Artists-in-residence are invited to take a critical, imaginative, or speculative approach that opens space for unexpected insight.

A closer look at the residency
The Nxt AI Residency is built on a close exchange between two worlds. At Nxt Museum, we offer curatorial direction, technical infrastructure, and the physical space to support experimentation. From Prosus comes deep expertise in AI, access to large-scale data systems, and a network rooted in global tech development.
Introducing the Artists
Four artists were selected for the residency. The AI residency programme focuses on gaining technical skills, learning about new tools, and exploring the possibilities of AI and data-driven research. During the programme’s first phase, the artists received support and guidance from Prosus data scientists.
