Nothing to see: Acousmatic music in 4DSOUND

Join us on 17 June for a spatial sound performance, an evening dedicated to master’s students of Immersive Audio at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. The students have immersed themselves in the historical performance practice of electroacoustic music that arose in Montréal, Québec, in the last decades of the previous century. Known as Acousmatic Music, its practitioners organized a series of concerts called Rien à Voir (“Nothing to See”), where fixed-media compositions were performed on an orchestra of loudspeakers using a technique known as diffusion. We are revisiting this performance practice, using 4DSOUND as a platform for the exploration of this technique in a contemporary setting.

The performing artists are:

Natasha Barrett, Growth (2022) 6’
Francis Dhomont, Chiaroscuro (1987) 17’
Jonty Harrison, Pair/Impair (1978) 12’
Marcel Wierckx, The Alchemist’s Flame (1997) 6’
Natasha Barrett, Growth (2022) 6’ (a different interpretation of the piece will be performed the second time)
