From 22 to 24 October, Motie transforms the former municipal service desks of Amsterdam City Hall into a temporary meeting place for music, art, light and the city’s creative night culture.
At the heart of the programme is Helios, a kinetic audiovisual installation by artist Heleen Blanken and designer and engineer Daniel de Bruin. Exploring the interplay between light, movement and perception, the work becomes a stage in its own right. Across three evenings, it takes on a different musical interpretation, with Young Marco & Jonny Nash, Oceanic and Gizem Öz moving into slower and more atmospheric territory.
Nxt Museum brings the work of interdisciplinary Ukrainian artist Sophia Bulgakova to the Stopera. Rooted in the Ukrainian context, her activist practice connects personal experience to wider social and political realities through immersive technologies and participatory installations. For Motie, Nxt has selected two of her works: Spomyny (2024) and Sensitive Guidelines (2026).
Spomyny — Ukrainian for ‘memories’ or ‘memoirs’ — brings together personal and collective accounts of the first three years of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, translating them into a collection of sonic artefacts.
Sensitive Guidelines (2026) is a new work commissioned by Nxt Museum for Motie, presented alongside Spomyny during Motie’s first ADE edition.
Together, the works bring the Curated by Nxt approach into a radically different setting: from an audiovisual installation taking centre stage to artworks appearing within the passageways of a building usually associated with civic life.
The wider Motie programme brings together electronic music, dance and contributions from Amsterdam’s creative and culinary scene. For three nights during ADE, the Stopera becomes a place where different parts of the city’s culture meet under one roof.
Curated beyond the museum
With Curated by Nxt, Nxt Museum brings its artistic network and expertise in art and technology to spaces beyond the museum. Working with artists and partners, we select and develop digital, immersive and spatial works in response to each location, audience and context.
At Motie, that means bringing digital art into one of Amsterdam’s most recognisable civic spaces — and creating new encounters between art, technology, music and the city around them.
