4DSOUND Spatial Sound Bootcamp
An intensive two-day workshop in spatial sound and immersive audio.

What if sound could become something you move through, shape and physically feel?On 18 & 19 January, 4DSOUND hosts an intensive two-day bootcamp at Nxt Museum, dedicated to spatial sound, immersive audio and creative technology.
Forget sitting through lectures. This is where you get your hands on the tools, push your ideas further and experiment with sound as a three-dimensional medium.
With just six participants, you’ll have direct access to the 4DSOUND system, individual mentorship from experienced creative engineers and plenty of room to experiment.
Bring your project, your questions and your curiosity. We’ll provide the space to take them further.

Get inside the sound

The bootcamp takes place in the 4DSOUND studio at Nxt Museum, home to the first 4DSOUND exhibition room in the Netherlands.
Equipped with nine OmniDrive omnidirectional speakers, eight Genelec monitors and a custom vibroacoustic seat with transducers, the studio creates a spatial sound environment that surrounds you and makes sound physically tangible.
Over two intensive days, you’ll learn how to work with this system, develop your own ideas and experiment with sound beyond conventional stereo formats.
Whether you’re working on a composition, researching spatial audio or looking for new ways to integrate sound into your creative practice, this is your chance to put your ideas to the test.

Two days of making, testing and experimenting

The bootcamp is designed for a small group of six practitioners. No passive spectators, no endless presentations. Everyone gets to work.Your programme includes:

An introduction to 4DSOUNDCreative engineer and spatial composer Marijn Cinjee kicks things off with a 90-minute introduction to the 4DSOUND Engine. Combining technical insights, creative possibilities and a guided listening session, you’ll get familiar with the system before diving into your own work.

Your own time in the studioYou’ll have 2.5 hours of guided individual studio time, divided across both days. Experiment with spatial compositions, test ideas and develop your project directly within the 4DSOUND environment. A facilitator will be present to support you with technical questions.

One-on-one mentorshipGet two hours of individual guidance from 4DSOUND creative engineers Roman Willems and Joris Takken.
On Day 1, you’ll work with Roman. On Day 2, Joris takes over. Both bring extensive experience collaborating with artists on spatial compositions and productions.
Use these sessions to challenge your creative decisions, solve technical problems and get feedback tailored to your practice.

Space to work together

Between studio sessions, Nxt Lab becomes your creative workspace. Develop your project, exchange ideas with fellow participants and learn from each other’s experiments.

At the end of Day 2, everyone shares what they’ve made or discovered. No polished final product required. The process is part of the work.

What you’ll take home

Besides two days of hands-on experimentation, you’ll leave with:

  • 2.5 hours of guided individual studio time on the 4DSOUND system
  • 2 hours of one-on-one mentorship with the core 4DSOUND team
  • A 90-minute introduction to the 4DSOUND Engine
  • A working prototype, experiment or developed concept
  • A 4DSOUND Engine Creator Pro licence (48-channel, valued at €460)
  • Practical knowledge of spatial audio composition, workflows and performance
  • Access to the international 4DSOUND network of studios and practitioners working with spatial audio around the world
  • New connections with artists, composers and creative technologists working across sound, space and technology

And perhaps a completely different way of thinking about sound.

Who is it for?

The bootcamp is designed for artists, composers, sound designers and creative technologists interested in developing their practice through spatial audio.
You don’t need to arrive with a finished composition. A work in progress, research question or creative idea is enough. What matters is your willingness to experiment.

Making space for more voices

We believe access to creative technology shouldn’t depend entirely on your budget.
That’s why one of the six available places is offered at a reduced fee of €450 instead of €950.
This place is intended for practitioners who would otherwise face a financial barrier to participating, including emerging artists, students, recent graduates and independent creatives without institutional support.
No financial documentation is required. We simply ask participants who can afford the full fee to leave the reduced-rate place available for someone who needs it.
